Bench Warrants in Terrell County
“Bench warrant” is a plain-language label for a court custody order tied to a missed setting, contempt, or another failure to comply. In Terrell County's lower-court layer, the JP is the main public contact for traffic, Class C, and fine-related matters. Ask the clerk whether the order is an FTA arrest warrant, capias, or capias pro fine.
A child-support capias follows a separate family-court path. District matters route to the court that set the case, which may be in Del Rio. The issuing court controls the remedy, even when the sheriff serves the order.
Terrell County Bench Warrants in JP Court
The current county JP page lists Judge Corina Arredondo and a countywide contact for the justice court. It gives a Sanderson mailing address and a phone number. An older county information sheet lists a second precinct-group number, but the current page does not show a separate active warrant desk for that group. Verify which JP contact applies before relying on the older listing.
Use the official JP page for current court contact and its GovRec fine link.
The county page gives a court route; it does not provide a public warrant-status form or recall schedule.
How a Terrell County Bench Warrant Is Issued
The process depends on the case and the court. For an initial JP setting, Texas Chapter 45A requires a notice with a new date and case details before an arrest warrant may issue for that first failure to appear. The court must explain alternatives to full payment and the result of missing the next date.
The order then goes to an authorized officer for service. Terrell publishes no shared warrant dashboard or list. The issuing clerk can tell you whether the order was entered, served, recalled, or returned.
FTA Notice Comes Before a Terrell Warrant
Chapter 45A.104 sets a notice step for an initial-setting FTA in covered justice and municipal cases. The notice includes another date, court details, possible alternatives to full payment, and the consequences of another missed appearance. It also allows a request for a different date or time.
This is a state rule, not a promise about what a particular Terrell file contains. Ask the JP whether the notice was sent and what date or hearing is now required.
Read Texas Chapter 45A for the current procedure.
The state text covers notice and recall rules; it does not publish Terrell's hearing hours or local forms.
Bench Warrant vs Arrest Warrant
The reader-facing term “bench warrant” describes why a court may seek custody; an arrest warrant is the court document or statutory order. A new probable-cause case is different from an existing case with a missed date. Ask the clerk for the exact document and case basis. The arrest-warrant page explains the separate probable-cause route.
| Feature | Bench Warrant | Arrest Warrant |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Missed setting, FTA, contempt, or failure to comply. | Probable-cause finding or a statutory custody process. |
| Who Issues It | The judge or JP handling the existing case. | A judge or magistrate on the proper record. |
| Underlying Case | Usually an existing case with a missed duty. | A charged offense or another authorized process. |
| How It Clears | Ask about appearance, reset, or recall. | Ask about surrender, bond, and court action. |
The caption and issuing court matter more than the informal label. A JP fine judgment may involve a capias pro fine and a hardship hearing, while a new criminal complaint follows a different route.
Terrell County Capias Pro Fine Warrant Hearing
A capias pro fine follows a judgment for unpaid fines or costs. It is not simply another name for a missed court date. Chapter 45A.259 requires an undue-hardship hearing before issuance for failure to satisfy the judgment and directs the court to consider legal alternatives when hardship is found.
The blank Texas forms show separate arrest-warrant and capias-pro-fine documents, but Terrell does not publish its own sample form. Ask the JP whether the balance is still due, a hearing is set, or an appearance can lead to recall.
The TMCEC forms-book index links the general Texas forms and carries a drafting disclaimer.
The forms are general examples, not a Terrell County filing packet.
How to Resolve a Terrell County Bench Warrant
Call the sheriff and the issuing court before you appear. Ask for the document name, cause number, status, bond, and any required hearing. Terrell County has no published walk-in policy, bond window, jail intake address, or recall motion form.
- Ask the JP or district clerk which court issued the order and whether it remains active.
- Ask whether you need a reset, FTA hearing, hardship hearing, or motion to recall.
- Confirm where and when to appear, what to bring, and whether a bond is set.
- Keep the signed recall order, receipt, or new setting notice and ask when records update.
Caution: A missed setting may lead to custody. Confirm the court's instructions before you travel or send payment.
Terrell County Bench Warrant Recall Forms
The county pages do not publish a local recall motion, filing fee, payment-plan form, or jail counter schedule. The law may allow recall after a voluntary appearance and good-faith effort in covered FTA and capias-pro-fine cases, but the court must explain how that works for the case at hand.
The county JP page says an appeal bond is twice the total fine. That is an appeal bond, not a published warrant bond amount. Do not assume that paying a balance alone recalls a warrant or closes the case.
Ask the court whether a hearing, payment arrangement, community service, bond, or attorney-filed motion is needed. Keep written proof of any action.
District Bench Matters May Be in Del Rio
A district-court FTA or bench matter may require two calls. The county District and County Clerk in Sanderson helps with records, while the 63rd and 83rd District Court pages list court contacts in Del Rio. The sheriff may serve an order but does not set a district hearing or recall it.
The county's 63rd Court page lists the Del Rio contact for its cases.
Confirm the case number and assigned court before making a trip.
The county's 83rd Court page lists a separate contact and courtroom floor.
Both court pages are contact pages, not public warrant searches.
Which Terrell County Court Issued It
Terrell County has no municipal court. Traffic, Class C, and many fine-related matters route to the county JP. Felony and district cases may connect to the 63rd or 83rd District Court in Del Rio. A family or child-support capias follows the assigned family-court and clerk route.
The case paper usually names the court or cause number. If it does not, call the clerk or sheriff and ask for the correct office. The county resolution steps explain the call-first questions to ask.
